Time to set out the "fillers".....

I have always been known for my "presentation"....rather that be in the store or my design line. So, as we prepare the store for the spring, I just wanted to show you a few peeks into our displays. I am so proud of my staff on how they have been "listening" to my style and learning and watching!

We are still working on getting all the new products out, but we are almost there. Now, it is time to go back through and start putting in what I call the "pretty fillers"....or "staging". In both fashion and home decor, it is my job to give my customers "inspiration" on how not only an "outfit" can look together...but, also how to display my products in their own home. This is why for the past 18 years we always hear:

"I need my Yaya fix!"

(still waiting on the arrival of several architectural pieces from France...which are now on their way to store) Then, after all those have been put in place...I will bring in the electrician to do some beautiful lighting....and get rid of those yucky florescent lights in the back of the store!

We will be returning this spring to the "Gypsy Market" here in Houston! A great market for our side of town with LOTS of beautiful treasures from some inspiring vendors....

It's Rodeo time in Houston!!!!

All you ladies that I style every year for the largest rodeo in the world....Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo...NOW is the time to get everything ready for all those wonderful nights at the rodeo. I have been carrying not only Old Gringo boots but the "vintage" style of boot from Corral Boots!

For those of you who love the more "Stevie Nicks" style.....

Then of course, there is the "Bayou Romance" style....

and what is the rodeo without the "Rock 'n Roll" style!!!

We have almost all of the new products on the floor and you are now welcome to come on in and see all the "new treasures"! There is still some "visual decorating" I need to finish up...but, it is lookin' good! Some come on by during our regular hours (Tuesday thru Saturday from 10:00am till 6:00pm) and feast your eyes on all the new beauties! With more on its way!!!!

And these are the images I bought for my printer to put in the tops of our windows!!! Can't wait to see them inserted....

And we have started working on the "canvas awning" over the check out counter"!!!

And of course we have these beautiful pieces coming for some "plantation" ambiance.....

Wait until you see the new ceiling tiles!!!! Those will start being put in next weekend while the store is closed and then we will put in some new lighting after that!!! The ambiance will feel like you have just stepped onto the plantations along the bayous of Louisiana (only in Texas)!

we are getting there! Due to a death in my family this week, I had to go back home to Louisiana, so we are about a week behind schedule. However, Amanda & April worked hard while I was gone and have been getting all the new inventory in and doing some painting of our new counter!

Here are some of the newest fashions we have out, and we will also have some BEAUTIFUL vintage home decor and gifts that we have "re-purposed"! (I will get pictures of those soon....)

We have been working all week, not only getting my design lines ready for the WESA show next week...but, also the store!

"Love Letters"

Here is the scoop....the new ceiling tiles will be put in next week and a lot of our "finishing touches" of the architectural treasures. We should be ready, hopefully, by the 3rd week of January if not sooner.

We will be having a 2012 celebration when we re-open with food, beverages, crafting and prize drawings! And make sure you save the date "Saturday, February 11th....for a FUN event!" Not only is it my birthday, but it is also "World Happy Day". And what better way to "celebrate" my birthday....but to have a party for my friends!

The painters have completed all the painting today and when I left, they were putting up the new dressing room made from old screen doors! (Never fear, there will be gorgeous material placed on the "inside" so no one can see ya changing).

I started out in this business as a professional artist back in the early 80's and I still love doing art...just never seem to have the time! And when I got into jewelry and fashion accessory design...I always made sure that my art was included into my studio in some form or fashion. I have ALWAYS been about "presentation"....and after 32 years, that still hasn't changed.

Four years ago when I moved the store to be closer to home, I always put "re-purposed" fashion and home decor in the store along with the 'buy & resale",.....and this year is back to some of the basics of my art and designs...in both fashion and home decor!

I have hired a wonderful young lady, April, who is from New York and has a degree in visual merchandising and textile design. We are excited to have her and her talent at Yaya----and the customers are going to not only see our beautiful treasures in fashion & jewelry that we have always been known for...but, we will be doing some "re-purposing" of clothing, home decor, and jewels, etc....a TRUE inspiration for all!!!

I promise to send out an invitation to all my customers, as soon as we are "ready to go"!!! So, keep in touch so that you know when we are ready to "CELEBRATE"....our new look for 2012!

Another year has past for Yaya Chique, and it was a very good year----now onto 2012!

There is only 4 more hours of our "final sales days" tomorrow, and then the items left on the floor will be donated to the "Mercy House"! Starting on Monday, we will start "reconstruction of the decor" and getting all the new treasures ready for display.

As usual, the style and look for Yaya Chique has always been "Romance on the Bayou"----otherwise Bourbon Street meets Paris! Our first window display for the year is "Love Letters" and the colors are rose, cream, gray and brown.....I can't wait for you to see it.

I must say though, that "Lucy & Ethel" will be retiring this year and the new "ladies" will be French mannequins (think 1920's)....It has been fun getting to put the "girls" in some pretty great predicaments....but, it is time to go back to my roots when I started up in 1994! BAYOU ROMANCE!!!

So adieu to Lucy & Ethel---it has been fun!

I am asking our customers to email me what they "Love" about Yaya Chique either in a letter or a picture! Use your imagination!!! Because we will use these letters and/or pictures in our "January" display windows.....and everyone that enters will have a chance to win a door prize! And I will also be giving away a $50.00 gift certificate to use in the store to the person who sends us the most "creative" love letter! I will not be choosing these, my staff will. The deadline to receive the love letter is January 15th when I will be decorating the store front windows for February (the month of LOVE).

Our "12 Days of Christmas" was loved by all, and we were able to give-a-way some GREAT treasures!!! Our "Christmas on the Bayou" party, last night, was a HUGE success....lots of ladies, great food, drinks, Cajun Christmas music and shopping. The ladies brought TONS of new treasures for the women of "Mercy House" and we were able to give a nice size check (10% of our sales yesterday) to such a great cause....A loving thank you to EVERYONE for their love and support to not only Yaya Chique, but to the "Mercy House".

Now, we prepare for the "end of the year" and get ready to start bringing in all the new treasures for rodeo, romance, and early spring! Here is some new goodies we got in yesterday...so, if you didn't make it in last night for the party, make sure you stop by to finish up those "last minute" shopping gifts for not only the loved one in your life---but for YOU!!!

Well, as the holidays grow closer and we begin to "decorate" the store for Christmas....just wanted to give you a look at some of the beautiful "jewels" we have at Yaya Chique...all under $25.00!!!!

and as always...we keep getting in beautiful and affordable treasures everyday! We start "decorating" the store on Sunday and Monday (when we are closed)....so that next week, you will be able to see all the "magic" that myself and the ladies will be doing!

Don't forget to mark your calenders for our annual "Christmas on the Bayou", with food, music, shopping and a loving gift for each customer from all of us at Yaya Chique!

Those that know me, know that every year I donate "new items" from the store to a woman's shelter in Houston----well, that has not changed, except that I will be asking all my customers to help us support a new battered & neglected women's shelter here in our own backyard called the "Mercy House". I ask that for the month of December and during our party on December 15th, that you bring an unwrapped gift as a donation to these women. Since, most them have left their situation with nothing and it is usually the children that fortunately get toys for Christmas....I wanted Yaya Chique and all its customers to donate something "new" for the women! Such as....spa products, bath products, house slippers, gloves, hats, make up, personal hygiene items, make up bags, etc...something that makes a woman feel beautiful & special!

I hope you all join me and the staff at Yaya Chique to show our love & support for these women....because as you know, I am a firm believer in feeling that EVERY woman has the right to feel beautiful and special!

Even though it is a scorcher here in the Bayou City, things are looking really cool with the new Fall treasures arriving here at Yaya Chique!

Of course us Texans are either wearing our cowboy boots or our flip flops!!!

If you have never had the chance to visit the store, please take note that over 98% of the beauties in my store are under $40.00! Yeppers, you read that right....people ask me all the time how I can find such gorgeous treasures at such unbelievable prices? I have known a lot of these designers and vendors for a long time....and through A LOT of research! I also do not mark up the products as most retailers due. And the main reason I can give such great prices.....is because I don't take a salary from the store. Every thing the store makes, goes to my staff and is reinvested into the company. I am fortunate enough to be able to make my living off of my own design line. Yaya Chique is my way of "giving back", so that all women can purchase beautiful treasures without it costing them a fortune!

Not to be outdone by Ethel, Lucy wanted her picture taken to show everybody just how "hip" she can be! All of the bags and caps are handmade...no two are alike!! Not only great to run around town with, but great for the teenagers for back to school bags!

Ethel and Lucy have decided that this week they are going to go "Hip"! LOTS of new great clothing and jewels for the summer...let's celebrate that it is almost time for the kids to get back to school, and you finally have some time for you! And what better place to celebrate your "soon to be freedom time"---than at the Yaya!

straw cowboy hats to help block out the unbearable sun! (LOTS of different styles)

We also got some beautiful rhinestone/crystal cross and fleur de lis visors in several colors...but, battery ran out so will get pics next time.

Stevie has arrived!

My style and designs have always been referred to as a very "Stevie Nicks" style....could be because I grew up the late 60's and early 70's as a "hippie". And now even at my age, I still have to have my "Stevie" style! (FYI: I remember an interview with Stevie asking her where she got her look, and she said that she was about to go on stage in some back roads bar and this young girl walked by all decked out in layers, upon layers of lace and jewels---and that is when she had her "aha" moment! It was then and there that she knew what her "look and style" was going to be from there on out. And the rest is history!)

So, for all you ladies that LOVE this look....we have everything you need at Yaya Chique to get your "Stevie Nicks" look going....and then some!

Okay, this one has a tutu....gotta have a "Texan" twist to this look!

Life's A Beach!

As you can see, summer is in full "swing" here at the Yaya! This outfit Lucy is wearing is a "Free Size" which means fits most ladies. I have several of these and I wear them at the beach, the lake and even just sitting around the pool at home! You are going to LOVE these!!!! (We have several different bright and vibrant colors and of course all the jewels you could ask for. Oh wait, do I hear the question..but, what about the flip flops???? Now you know I wouldn't forget you on that one!

I have these gorgeous gypsy sandals being shipped to the store today...

Now these beauties are on back order and will ship the end of this month!

Now you know here in the Bayou City along the gulf, we wear sandals and flip flops pretty much all year long; heck, we even wear our cowboy boots during the summer (without socks)! So, here is what I have coming the end of August!!!! The Yaya just has to have her turquoise!!!

Now, you didn't think being a Cajun from Louisiana that I could resist these???

Always LOTS of beautiful jewels!

I had closed the retail side in January (after 4 years) to concentrate on my own design line (which I have been doing since 1994), because I just couldn't do both----but, my new manager who is a great friend and has worked with me before (temporary over a year ago) has decided to change her career path and take the helm of Yaya Chique! So, needless to say---we have LOTS of great plans coming up this year and the future of the retail side---while I concentrate on my own designs (which you can see HERE and hear all about the GREAT avenues that are coming up this fall and next spring!)
